High Alert: Lahore Flooded as 44-Year Rainfall Record Shatters

Monsoon rains are ongoing across Pakistan, but the situation in Lahore is particularly frustrating. This time, the city has broken a 44-year record for rainfall.

According to media reports, 300 mm of rain has been recorded at the airport, and over 200 mm has been recorded in various areas, including Tajpura, Paniwala Talab, Johar Town, and Nishtar Town.

In roof collapse incidents, unfortunately, a girl has died, and five others have been injured.

The Commissioner of Lahore has declared a rain emergency. CM Maryam Nawaz has also instructed officials to drain the water as soon as possible. All administrative departments are on high alert, and all relevant workers are expected to be in the field.

The rain has drastically affected electricity transmission in the city. About 288 feeders have tripped, according to LESCO.

Heavy rainfall starting from 5 am has also affected traffic. Roads are flooded and blocked, with some major highways completely submerged.

General and Services Hospitals are flooded with water, causing significant problems for patients and their attendants.
