SIM cards will be blocked by August 16: PTA

The Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) has decided to block all SIM cards registered under CNICs that are blocked, canceled, or in the name of individuals who are no longer alive. This decision has been made to enhance security and protect the data of all citizens.

According to reports, PTA has already started sending text messages to those whose CNICs are being canceled or blocked, as well as to those whose CNICs are registered in the name of deceased individuals. SIM cards registered under canceled CNICs will be blocked on August 16.

For SIM cards registered under CNICs that have been blocked since 2017, users have until September 2 to renew their CNICs. Additionally, SIM cards registered in the name of deceased persons must be re-registered under the user’s own CNIC by September 15.

If any of these scenarios apply to you, it is crucial to re-register your SIM card under your own CNIC promptly.
